Lyrics: I was in the 3rd grade on a yellow bus
smaller than most but I was still tough
had a backpack of books and my lunch in a brown paper bag
jimmy rowe was from the other side of town
wore a black bandanna cap turned 'round
everybody knew not to get in jimmy's way
10 stops later jimmy got on the bus
he wanted my seat but I didn't budge
so he took my lunch and threw my books on the floor
everybody laughed but I didn't cry
could of landed a punch didn't even try
I just let him walk away without a fight

sometimes the bigger man steps aside
gives some ground but keeps his pride
might lose the battle but win the war
cause he knows what he's fighting for
jimmy rowe ain’t worth your time
the tables will turn as time goes by
at 10 years old I hope you'll understand
it's more important in life to be the bigger man

I grew up fast in my high school days
years passed by like a speeding train
signed up with the army just like my old man
first day of camp couldn't believe
jimmy rowe standing across from me
built like a tank with a wicked look in his eyes

sometimes the bigger man steps aside
gives some ground but keeps his pride
might lose the battle but win the war
cause he knows what he's fightin' for
jimmy rowe can’t you see I am not your enemy
I pray someday that you will understand
it's more important in life to be the bigger man

we got called late that fall to serve on the frontline
when a sneak attack behind our back took us by surprise
when I came to I heard the news that everyone was safe
except one fallen hero who dove on that grenade

it was a bigger man who stepped aside
sacrificing his own life
a purple heart for bravery
is my friend jimmy's legacy
losing battles winning wars
knowing what your fighting for
like my father said when I was 10
it's more important in life to be the bigger man
